A Picnic Party

"Picnic is an enjoyable occasion."

A picnic breaks the dullness of life. Everyone gets tired of daily work and wants a change. So a picnic away from the busy life of the city provides change and relaxation.

Once I got a chance to go on a picnic. It was the month of March. Our class teacher decided to take us to the canal for a picnic on Sunday. We were about thirty boys. We took cakes, sweetmeats, fruit, a tape-recorder, two carpets, and other necessary things. All of us gathered in the school at 7 a.m. From there we set out for the canal in high spirits. It was at a distance of thirty kilometers. All of us went in a mini-bus.

The morning was very pleasant. It was delightfully cool. A gentle cool and refreshing breeze was blowing. On the way, we sang, cracked jokes, and listened to music. We were all full of life and spirit.

We reached the canal in about an hour. We spread the carpets on a grassy spot under a grove of trees and rested for some time. It was a big contrast between the noisy town and this quiet place.

Then some of us took paths in the canal. The water was cool and we enjoyed it very much. We waded and swam about and splashed one another with water until we were quite tired. Now we felt very hungry. So some of us prepared tea on a stove and we took one cup each with cakes, pastries, and sandwiches. The tea was really very delicious.

After that began a very interesting program. Two members of four parties amused us with their songs. This was followed by funny stories and tidbits.

It was now lunchtime and we were feeling very hungry. So we unpacked our baskets and took sweets and fruit with tea. After some time, we cooked our food and had a hearty meal. Then some of us began to play cards and chess.

At 3 P.M. some refreshment was given to us and we started on our return journey. But before starting, we picked up our litter. We reached home late in the evening. We had a jolly good time there. The day was full of fun and merriment.
