A Tea Party

Last evening, my neighbor gave a tea party. He was celebrating the birth-day of his son. He pressed me very hard to attend this party. So I had to attend it much against my will. My neighbor had invited a large number of people to the party. People of different tastes, habits, and manners had gathered there. They were talking to each other over petty matters. They were laughing loudly without any good cause for laughter. Cheap western music was being played. I felt ill at ease in such a company. The place presented the scene of a fish market. Such an atmosphere was not congenial to my taste. Among the gathering, most of the people were illiterate. They were dressed in the latest fashions. But their talk smacked of mannerlessness. When the feast began, everybody pounced greedily upon the dishes. They seemed to be big gluttons. They had not the patience even to chew the eatables. They swallowed things with great haste. Whenever a waiter brought some dish, it was snatched away even before he could place it on the table. I had never seen people behaving in such a childish way. After the eating was over, some records of the noisy 'disco' music were played. People started dancing wildly to the tune of music. Even grown-up men and ladies danced shamelessly. Every sense of decency was thrown to the winds. I could hardly bear this sight. I cursed myself for having joined such a party. I left the place in great disgust.
