The Republic Day-26 January
India became free on 15th August 1947 and on 26 January 1950. She adopted her own constitution. India now became a republic. Since that day, this day is celebrated with great pomp and show. Preparations begin several months in advance. Some pageants are also drawn in procession on the Rajpath to salute the president. The three wings of the armies start the function by a march past. They are followed by N.C.C. Cadets, Home Guard, Retired Military personnel’s, Nurses and Folk dancers from different states. Before the function begins the President arrives and he unfurls the National Flag and a salute of thirty guns is fired. At the end comes the colourful fly past by the Indian Air force planes. At night all the government buildings are illuminated.
