A Rainy Day in Summer

"Rain is a gift of God."

A rainy day in summer is a great blessing. It provides relief from the scorching heat. It also gives water to the thirsty and dry earth. It cools the weather.

It was a hot summer day. The air was quite still. It was extremely hot. Not a leaf stirred in the trees. Everyone perspired from head to foot. Birds and animals gasped for breath. All longed for rain. All of a sudden, a cool wind began to blow. Thick dark clouds appeared in the sky. Rumbling of distant, thunder clouds be heard every now and then.

Suddenly it began to drizzle. People welcomed it and prayed for rain. Soon it began to rain heavily. Water began to flow down the roof spouts. Gutters began to overflow. The pattering of rain was very pleasant. At times lightning flashed and clouds thundered. In less than half an hour there was water and water everywhere.

The streets were filled with water. They looked like canals. The children took off their clothes and began to bathe in the falling rain. Some made paper boats and floated them in water. Others jumped and brisked about splashing water. The elderly people stayed indoors. They either watched television or played cards. Some people were caught in the rain. They were drenched through and through. Some people slipped and their clothes were spoiled. Some people were seen going about clad in waterproof coats. Some cycles skidded on the slippery roads. After two hours the rain ceased (stopped) and the sky cleared up.

The weather became cool and pleasant. A rainbow appeared in the sky and faded away after some time. The tanks and ponds were filled with water. The trees and grass looked beautiful, green, and fresh. The tiny plants fluttered in the gentle breeze. The birds sang merry notes. The frogs croaked in the ponds.

People went outside to enjoy the pleasant weather. Some arranged mango parties. In short, men, beasts, and birds all appeared gay and happy. A rainy day in summer is a welcome sight. It is always hailed with joy.
