A Rickshaw Puller

Rickshaws have come into use almost in all towns and in big villages. In these days, it is very difficult to make both ends meet. So most of the people have taken to rickshaw pulling as a means of livelihood.

The work of a rickshaw puller is very hard. He does physical labor to earn money. He pedals his rickshaw with his feet. His legs get tired. He has to be very careful while playing it. He has to look ahead in order to avoid accidents. He gets up early in the morning. He works the whole day long and takes rest at night. In summer he works under the blazing sun. In winter he works in the biting cold. He carries his food with him. He carries fares and luggage from one place to another.

We generally see him near the railway stations, schools, colleges, hospitals, cinemas, courts, or market places. We can also see him plying his rickshaw in bazaars and streets.

The rickshaw puller is generally illiterate. He is, therefore, sometimes, rude. He quarrels with the passengers over the fare. Sometimes, he uses foul language. At times he is very rash in driving the rickshaw. This results in accidents.

His hard work weakens his health. Still, he does not earn enough to make both ends meet. His condition is miserable and pitiable. It is the duty of the Municipal Corporation to give them loans to buy auto-rickshaw. All rickshaws should be replaced by auto-rickshaws. It is a shame that in the modern age, the man pulls man. It is hoped that Government will soon do for the needful.
