Discipline

"Purify your mind through discipline."

Discipline may be defined as control over one's desires and fancies. It requires obedience to fixed rules of behavior. It puts certain checks on one's freedom and actions. It is important because its absence can create confusion. It is a must for having civilized life. It is necessary for people from all walks of life. Students, men of the armed forces, and industrial workers must have discipline. Discipline enables a nation to march on the road of progress and prosperity. The object of N.C.C. and N.S.S. is to make the students disciplined. The fell in the discipline in educational institutions has led to a fall in educational standards. It is not possible to each property if there is no discipline in the classroom. In the government offices also there is no discipline. There is a need of discipline in the social and political life of the country. Some anti-social activities like smuggling and black-marketing show the absence of discipline from our national life. Discipline is necessary in our homes. Children must be disciplined when they are under the care of their parents. Parents should not quarrel in the presence of children. A nation having no discipline is attacked by other nations. There can be no national unity without discipline. Even the functioning of the democratic form of government can suffer if there is no discipline in the country.

We need discipline in the playground. The players must follow the rule of the game. Discipline is not contrary to freedom. It brings freedom. Freedom is not the law of jungle. No office can run without discipline. Every official must know the duties of his office and work accordingly.

Discipline is a precious asset. Life without discipline is like a ship without a rudder. Discipline is thus a code of rules applicable to all spheres of life. It must be learned and practiced. It must spring from within a person. Self-imposed discipline is the right discipline.
