Life in a college hostel is a memorable experience. It is very pleasant. In a college hostel, one forgets one's cares and worries. One can spend money like water and demand more from home. When a student is in the hostel his parents are willing to help him in all the ways. In a college hostel, a student meets with boys from different parts of the country. He mixes with them and learns to live with them happily. Life in a college hostel is actually an experience in cooperative living. Here a boy can develop life-long friendships. He has the opportunity of developing his personality. He has to do everything for himself. He learns a useful lesson of self-help.

A student in the hostel is the master of his time. He may go to the class or not. He may study or not. He may go to see a picture or he may work hard. He has to decide everything for himself. He may also fall into evil ways and ruin his life. So life in a college hostel can both be a blessing and a curse. It depends on the individual student.

Hostel life teaches co-operation. They dine together, sit together and enjoy themselves in the common room. They take part in various functions which they themselves manage. They play games. It teaches responsibility. Every hostel has its office bearers. They are elected from amongst students. Everyone takes part in the election. Those seeking election have to canvass for votes. It teaches them the art of self-government.

Thus hostel life teaches co-operation, discipline, self-confidence, and independence. All these qualities build a character. In this way, hostel life gives a student the necessary training to become a useful member of society.
