A House on Fire

Fires are great friends as well as worst enemies. The proper use of fire solves many of our problems. But its rough use can put our life in danger. Thus its improper use may pose a great problem.

The misery of fire may appear in the form of a house on fire. A house on fire presents a very pathetic and heart-rendering sight. Last Monday, it was midnight. I lay asleep on the terrace of my house. I was disturbed by the cries of people saying 'fire, fire'. I saw a large crowd of people running to one side. I also went there. I had a great desire to see the spot as early as possible. Many people of the street also gathered there on seeing the huge cloud of smoke rising in the sky.

Unfortunately, a strong wind was also blowing. So the fire was further spreading with alarming speed. All the people began to throw buckets of sand and water upon the flames. But all the efforts could not control the fire. The fire brigade had been rung up but it had not arrived so far. It was a very magnificent house in our locality. The owner of the house had gone out for a few days. The servants were putting up in the house. They appeared to be very careless.

We heard a lady crying for help. Her only son was trapped in the fire. He was sleeping upstairs. No one was ready to help. It seemed that everybody was frightened. There was a young man who seemed to be well trained in such cases. He got himself ready and came for help. He managed to reach upstairs and brought back safely the son of the lady. Everybody praised him. Soon fire brigade also reached the spot. The fire was controlled and put off but a lot of damage was done. It was a hasty scene.

The fire had broken out due to an electric short circuit. One of the servants had noticed it but due to his carelessness. It resulted in major damage.

Timely and proper action is very important in our life. If he had taken timely action, major damage could have been avoided. We must exercise caution in our day to day life. We are passing through an age of science. So it is our duty to be alert about our surroundings.
