Street Quarrel

"Think before you act."

In India, we are very fond of quarreling. Street quarrels are very common. Daily they occur on one pretext or the other. The trifles take bigger shapes. Perhaps we cannot keep ourselves idle. To keep oneself busy we indulge in quarrels. I was passing through the street in which I live. At the corner of the street, I saw a big crowd of people. I asked the reason for the quarrel and came to know that some boys were playing. The boy who lost the game has abused the others. The other boys beat him.

The elder brothers of the boys who got thrashing came and they beat the other boys with canes. The elders of the other party also came. Now it was a fight among the elders. It started with youngsters over a small matter. Both the parties started fighting with sticks. The fathers of both the boys got serious injuries. Their heads were bleeding.

Soon a case was registered with the police. The police came on the scene. The police arrested persons of both parties and took them to the police station. The people in street were very unhappy. Some went to the police with a request to release them on bail. The S.H.O. of the police station did not agree. On investigation, he challenged the members of both parties. It was a case of rioting and disturbing the peace of the area.

Now both parties were released on bail. The case in the court was filed. It lingered on for several months. Both the parties engaged their lawyers. Both of them suffered very heavily. The quarrel cost them very dearly.

One should try to avoid a quarrel. One loses time, money, one gets physical punishment and is mentally tortured, too likewise trifles give rise to major fights and never-ending fights. One should build a tolerance. So it is a good step to tolerate the excess of others and to avoid a dispute.
