Dear Sir,

I would like to draw the attention of the concerned people to the dismal state of the national highway between the Gobazaar and the Parade Ground in Dibrugarh.

Encroachments on both sides of the road have reduced it to a narrow lane. This road has been dug up at various places for lying down of telephone lines, water connections, and sewer lines. Indifferent filling up of the dug-up trenches has made them vulnerable to heavy rains, which have further deteriorated the condition of the road.

It is virtually impossible to drive or even walk down this road, which is at any given time heavily congested with large trucks and tempos.

The Citizen's Action Forum, the Mercantile Association of Dibrugarh, and the Truck and Tempo Union of Dibrugarh have repeatedly made joint representations to the Central Public Works Department and the National Highways Authority. Unfortunately, no concrete action has been taken.

On their part, they have even tried to reduce congestion on this particular stretch of road by regulating the entry and exit of heavy vehicles. Yet the situation can only improve if concrete steps towards the repair of the road are taken by the concerned authorities.
