Biography of Naveen Patnaik

(October 16, 1946)

Naveen Patnaik, son of late Chief Minister of Orissa, Biju Patnaik, was born on October 16, 1946 at Cuttack. His early education was completed at Welham Preparatory School for Boys in Dehradun. Later he joined the Doon Public School, Dehradun and acquired good knowledge in history, oil painting and athletics. To receive higher education, he came to Delhi and joined Delhi University where he was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree.

He has always been associated with art, ecology and culture. Naveen Patnaik is a founder member of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage.

Fatnaik entered the political arena during the 11th Lok Sabha elementary elections and got elected from Aska Parliamentary constituency. He was a member of the consultative committee of the Ministry of Steel and Mines. In 1998, he formed the Biju Janata Dal Party in Orissa. Presently, he is the Chief Minister of Orissa.
