Biography of Om Prakash Chautala
(January 1, 1935)
A leader who assumed the office of Chief Ministership of Haryana five times is Om Prakash Chautala. He was born on January 1, 1935, at village Chautala in Dadwali Tehsil of Siva district. His initial education was completed in his native village. To acquire higher education he went to Sangoria and Dadwali.
Chautala has inherited the passion for politics from his father Chaudhary Devi Lal. He successfully organised Nyaya Vidh, Haryana Bachao, Samast Haryana and Kisan Rally in different parts of the state to protest against lawlessness and corruption prevalent in the state. Consequently, he gained huge popularity and got elected to the State Assembly five times in 1970, 1990, 1993, 1996 and 2000. He also was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1987 to 1990.
Presently, he is the Chief Minister of Haryana. His government is formulating progressive policies concerning the industry, particularly in the field of Information Technology.
