J. Krishnamurti

(May 11, 1895 - 1986)

Jiddu Krishnamurti was born on May 11, 1895, in a pious middle-class family in the rural town of Madanapalle in South India. He was educated in England. He was discovered in his youth by the leaders of the Theosophical Society, Mrs. Annie Besant and Bishop Lead Beaten, who proclaimed that he was the world teacher the Theosophists were waiting for.

Krishnamurti underwent certain mystical experiences that brought about a deep transformation and gave him a new vision of life. Later he dissociated himself from all organised religions and ideologies, and embarked on his solitary mission, meeting and talking to people not as a Guru but as a friend. He gave new meaning and content to religion by pointing to a way of life that transcended all organised religions. Declaring that his only concern was to set man absolutely and unconditionally free, sought to liberate man from his deep conditioning of sorrow, fear, violence and selfishness. J. Krishnamurti died in 1986.
