Biography of  Aayoratt Chantumenon

(January 9, 1847-1900)

The themes of the writings of Aayoratt Chantumenon are similar to Premchand's writings. Both of them have excellently explained the impact of the Zamindari system and its repercussions.

Aayoratt Chantumenon was born on January 9, 1847, in a middle-class family. After completing his education, he passed the coveted Civil Services Examination and became a sub-judge.

The British government was very pleased with the work of Chantumenon and therefore he was conferred the title of 'Rai Bahadur'. His first novel was 'Indulekha'. It became very popular with the readers.

His second famous work was 'Sharda'. But after completing its first volume he died in 1900. Many a time’s different writers have tried to complete the novel but no one has been able to do it. The most important thing about his novel is that he has presented many things humorously in his novels to make it more enjoyable. Secondly, he chose the subject matter for his novels from the surroundings.
