The premier female playback singer in India today, Alka Yagnik has reigned supreme for the past decade or two, in the world of playback singing

Born and brought up in Kolkata, Alka Yagnik had a flair for music from her very childhood. She underwent rigorous music training from a very early age under a number of teachers.

She started singing bhajans for the Kolkata Radio at the age of six. In the beginning, singing was just a hobby for her, but as success and popularity came along, she started taking it up seriously as a profession. The song which steered her towards fame was 'Ek Do Teen’ from the film ‘Tezaab'.

Since then she has had hits after hits, overshadowing close competitors. In her short career, Alka Yagnik has in her kitty, three Filmfare awards and two national awards. Now she seems to be the right successor of melody queen Lata Mangeshkar.
