Biography of Dev Anand
Dev Anand was born in 1923 in Gurdaspur, Punjab. His actual name is Devdutt Pishorimal Anand. He did his graduation in English Literature from Government College, Lahore.
At the age of 20, Dev Anand came to Mumbai to try his luck in the film world of Mumbai. He got his first break in the film "Hum Ek Hain and later Ashok Kumar cast him in the film "Ziddi'. However, Dev Anand tasted his first major success and stardom with Guru Dutt's Baazi.
Dev Anand's forte was the boy next door look. In the year 1954, Dev Anand married actress Kalpana Kartik. He appeared in roles of hardbitten characters in films like 'Taxi Driver' and C.I.D'. He played a heartless smuggler in Jaal', a black marketeer in 'Bombai Ka Babu', thus breaking the 'virtuous hero' role in Hindi cinema. His other hit films were "Nau Do Gyarah', 'Guide, Hare Rama Hare Krishna', Hum Naujawan'. His handsome face has always been the factor for drawing audiences, especially girls, in the cinema halls.
