Biography of Rajendra Kumar

(July 20, 1929 - July 29, 1999)

Rajendra Kumar was also known as Jubilee Kumar' because he delivered a good number of hit films in his film career. Rajendra Kumar's real name was R.K. Tuli. He was born in 1929 at Sialkot (Pakistan). For 20 years Sialkot was his home.

Life for Rajendra Kumar was a long struggle, until he became a successful actor. After a stint as an assistant director to H.S. Rawail, Rajendra Kumar managed to get an unaccredited role in Kidar Sharma's ‘Jogan'. After half a decade of struggle, he got a big role in V. Shantaram's ‘Toofan Aur Diya', which brightened his prospects. It was the musical hit ‘Goonj Uthi Shehnai', which put Rajendra Kumar on the road to silver jubilee success. There was a phase between 1959 and 1966 when most films starring Rajendra Kumar proved to be huge successes. His hit films include Mera Mehboob', ‘Ayee Milan Ki Bela', Arzoo', 'Dil Ek Mandir’, ‘Sangam' and 'Sasural'. On July 29, 1999, Rajendra Kumar died of cancer at the age of seventy.
