Biography of Vishwa Mohan Bhatt

Born: 27 July 1950, Jaipur

Creator of the Mohan Veena, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt has enchanted the world with his delicate yet fiery music. The foremost disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt was born in 1952 in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Initially, he underwent training from his elder brother Shashi Bhushan.

He Indianised the western Hawaiian guitar with his perfect assimilation of Sitar, Sarod, and Veena techniques, by giving it an evolutionary design and shape and by adding 14 more strings in it. As a result, the instrument Mohan Veena achieved unbelievable heights.

With his fantastic speed and faultless legato, Bhatt is no doubt one of the most expressive and versatile slide players of the World. He has performed extensively in the U.S.A., Canada, England, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Germany, several Middle Eastern countries as well as the constituent states of the former Soviet Union. He won the highest music award of the world, the Grammy Award.
