A Crime, The Theft

It was the month of March. All the members of our family had gone to Delhi to attend the marriage ceremony of my cousin. I did not go with them because I had to take my English examination the next day. I was all alone in my house and studied late at night. I went to bed at 12 in the night. I had hardly slept when I heard a sound in the adjacent room. I silently rose and crept out of my room. I saw some light in the room of my mother. When I looked into the room I saw a thief who was opening the jewellery box of my mother. I was much afraid but I didn't lose courage. I hid myself behind the wall near the door of the room. The thief broke open the jewellery box, took out ornaments and put them into his pocket. He then turned to the other box. Now his back was facing the door. I did not miss the chance and tilted to the door. I shut bolted it from out. Then I began the shout at the top of my voice, “thief, thief, help me.” Hearing the cry, the neighbours rushed into my house. I told them what had happened. One of them ran to call the police. Immediately one inspector of police with two constables came into my house and opened the door. They found the thief and took him away to police station. They returned me the ornaments obtained from the thief. When my father and mother came back they praised me very much and embraced me.
