A Visit to a Circus

"Practice makes a man perfect."

There are many forms of entertainment but one that is popular with the young and old alike is the circus show. I have always looked toward for visiting it. This year I went with my friend to watch the circus.

There was a long queue to buy the tickets. We stood at the end of it and watched the posters of the acrobats and animals put up all around the tent. Finally, we reached the end of the queue and bought our tickets and went in. We were in the fourth row from the front and so could have a good view of the arena. There were a few performances we liked very much.

First of all, I liked the acrobatics of the troupe of acrobats. They entered in shining golden yellow satin vests and leggings. They marched all around the arena, smartly saluting the audience. In the meantime, some men swiftly put up a huge net and swing from the roof of the tent then the acrobats swing into action. They agilely leaped from one swing in one corner to the swing on the opposite corner. They would hang upside down on the swing and swing across to the other side and catch hold of the other swing with their hands. Finally, they all jumped down on to the net and made their way behind the curtain in a near time.

Another fascinating item was the globe made of a mesh of iron. A man rode all around it and upside down in it on a motorbike.

There was one very frightening item also in the show. A girl was mounted on a round wooden board and a man stood precariously balanced on a rope with knives in his hand. He aimed them all around the girl so that finally she was surrounded by knives. Each time he aimed I held my breath, truly scared that the knife might hit the girl. Finally, the girl jumped down and we all clapped not only at the skill of the marksman but also out of sheer relief that the horror show was over.

Yet again another fun-filled performance was that of the juggler who threw up a number of tennis balls into the air and caught each one deftly before throwing it up again. He had about eight balls in the air at one time. He did the same show with China plates, and we watched with suspense lest a plate crashed to the ground.

Comic relief was provided by two clowns. Both were wearing oversized pajamas and short shirts with floral designs on them. They had painted their faces, in red and white. They would keep hitting each other with a stick. One of the clowns went all around the auditorium. Clicking like a hen and then sat down and laid eggs.

Then there was the cycle show in which girls and boys rode on a cycle with one wheel and then stood on each other’s shoulders and formed a pyramid.

Another item we all enjoyed was the animal show. Lions were made to perform with the lion tamer inside the cage. There were three lions who sat on a stool and got down from it as the lion tamer commanded. There were elephants who walked all around the arena and played with a ball. Then there were Chimpanzees who played cricket and performed other tricks. They finally cycled all around the auditorium waving goodbye to the enthralled audience.

Thus the circus show was filled with fun and frolic which we thoroughly enjoyed and looked forward to seeing again.
