A Visit to the Red Fort

The Red Fort stands near the river Yamuna in front of Chandani Chowk, the main trading center of Delhi. There stand Jama Masjid and Jain temple near this gorgeous and glorious structure of the red stone. It tells about the glory of Mughal emperors. It is a beautiful sample of the skill of constructors of Mughal times. This beautiful and grand fort was got built by Shahjehan.

Before entering the Red Fort, we are supposed the buy tickets from the booking office which is under a huge tree.

The guard checks the tickets and gives the entry. We reach the 'Covered Bazaar' which was called 'Meena Bazaar during the Mughal period. Here the rich merchants used to come to sell their wares to the nobility.

Then we reach the main gate. Where there is a big room which is the exhibition room of the old and new weaponry of war. Now we pass through the lawns which were residential places of the soldiers of the Mughal period and reach Diwan-E-Aam.

Diwan-E-Aam is a roof raised on pillars. Its ceiling is plastered with white plaster and it is decorated with golden work. In the center of this hall, there is a big seat of white marble. These are marked places where nobles of the court presented themselves.

Further, there is 'Rangmahal' the palace of queens which is now turned into an exhibition room, exhibiting old robes, utensils, some beautiful designs, and jewelry. On the left-hand side, there is a big hall having a provision of a small river in it to keep it cool in the summer season. Beside this hall, there is a 'baithak' and on its frame is engraved the famous scale of justice of Akbar. Then there is "Shish Mahal" its wall is covered with glasses. Then there is "Shahi Burj" from where the emperor would present himself before the public. There is the mosque where the emperor offered prayers. Then there are two tanks outside the main building within the compound of Red Fort, where the flowers bloomed at night. These tanks were called Mahtab Bagh.

Most of the portion of this fort is used by the Indian military. This grand red stoned structure makes a grand impression of its glory on the visitors. They come to see it in large numbers.
