My School Library

"A college without a library is like a man without brain."

The library is a storehouse of learning. Books lying in a library enrich us with the profound ideas of great scholars. A library is a place where a man can spend his time with leisure. The atmosphere in the library is always calm and serene.

My school has a very fine library. It is housed in a big room on the first floor. The room is very spacious. It is well ventilated and is supplied with ceiling fans and electric light. Its walls are decorated with inspiring mottoes and pictures of great writers, poets, scientists, and leaders. In fact, the room is very attractive.

Along the walls are arranged big animals containing books. There are about fifteen thousand books on various subjects in English, Hindi, and Punjabi. The books are so well arranged that it is very easy to locate any book. One big almirah contains reference books like wonder books of knowledge, Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Atlases, etc. The school also buys several magazines, pictorials weeklies, and daily newspapers which are placed on the stands for perusal.

In the middle of the room, large tables are placed. On both sides of these tables, chairs are arranged for the boys to sit on and read books. The school has about forty sections and each section has one library period every week. Boys love to be in the library. They read books of their choice in the library.

The library is in the charge of a qualified librarian. He takes a very keen interest in his work. He is very helpful to the boys. He inculcates in them the love of reading. He treats the boys very politely but he is a very strict disciplinarian. Nobody can dare talk or make a noise in the library. Everyone has to observe perfect silence. There is an assistant librarian also. The special feature of our library is that it is used by the students and teachers.

A library is a must in every school. It adds to one's knowledge. It is indeed the soul of a school.
