My First Day in School

"Lucky is a man who goes to school, Man is a fool without going to school."

I appeared for the entrance test of Sainik School. I did all the papers extremely well. My result was declared. I stood 6th on the merit list. My parents got my new uniform and dress stitched by the tailor. My mother and sisters made all my preparations for school. For the first time, I was ping to a boarding school away from my parents. I reached the school early in the morning. I was surprised to see the magnificent building of the school. The school is in the palace of the Maharaja of Kapurthala

I was welcomed by the senior students. I went around the school building. It gave me a lot of joy to see the big door, beautiful windows, statues, play grounds, green grassy plots, and a variety of flowers. The principal made a speech in the auditorium addressing and welcoming all the students. Some students told us about the school in small speeches. We were sixty students. Four batches were made. We were attached with a senior boy as a guide and also a teacher. We were taken around the school.

My guide showed me the printing press, art and craft room, wood workrooms, audio-visual room, laboratories, and library. He showed us different rooms of different departments. The school had a big farm, piggery, and stable for horses, a fishing tank, and a swimming pool. It took two hours to see the school campus. We were also briefed about the restricted areas where students were not allowed to go.

After that, we were driven to book bank. It was a great surprise to us that we were provided textbooks and copies froth the school side without charging a single penny from us. In the meantime, there was the last bell. We came back to our hostel. We were made to stay in Ranjit House. Everything appears to be in order and worked as per scheduled. In the hostel also the time schedule was displayed right from morning to sleeping hour.

On my first day in Sainik School Kapurthala was not in the four walls of the classroom. I learned many new things. In fact, imparting firsthand knowledge is the motto of my school. The discipline appeared to be a way of life in the school. The other thing that impressed me was the behavior of the students and teachers. Each behaved well. So it appeared there that home comforts had been transformed into regular and disciplined life.
