The Happiest Day of My Life

"Life is full of incidents. Some of them make us happy

while others make us sad. But a wise man is he who is

neither happy in happiness nor sad in unhappiness."

The 20th of June 2003, was the happiest day of my life. The memory of that day is still fresh in my mind. And it seems as if all this happened only yesterday. I was then a student of the 10th class and always stood first in the school tests. I had taken the Matriculation Examination, and we were all eagerly waiting for the result. My teachers had high hopes for me. But I had not done my Punjabi Paper well and was not sure of winning a scholarship. I felt rather depressed. On the 20th of June, 2003, the result was declared. To my great joy, I stood first on the Board. The whole school was full of joy.

That very afternoon, another very pleasant thing happened. Our cricket team played a match against the Government School. I was one of the players. The Government School team was very strong and there was no hope of our winning the match. Our score was very low. Eight players were out for only 84 runs, then came my turn. I was known to be an ordinary player. But that day I played so confidently that our score mounted up like anything. I made 80 runs and the Government School team lost the match. I became a hero. Everybody felt that victory in the match was solely due to me. I received hearty congratulations from all sides. My Principal patted me on my back.

In the evening, a party was arranged in my honor. Speeches were made in my praise. When the meeting was in progress, I received a telegram that my brother had been selected as a probationary officer in a bank. My joy knew no bounds. All congratulated me on my good luck. It was indeed the happiest day of my life.
