Biography of Amjad Khan

(November 12, 1940 - May 1992)

Amjad Khan was born in November 12, 1940. The second son of the 1950's actor Jayant, Khan steered towards theatre in his youth. Though Khan was to be launched as a hero in his home production, ‘Patthar Ke Sanam', in 1965, the film did not proceed beyond its inception. Then, in 1975, the cult movie 'Sholay’ shot Amjad Khan into fame. The film marked the culmination of ten years of struggle for Khan. His subsequent films "Muqaddar Ka Sikander', ‘Suhaag’ and ‘Mr. Natwarlal’ consolidated his position as a major star.

While travelling to the location of Wattan', a car accident nearly killed Amjad Khan, but he effected a miraculous recovery. He played the title role in the films Dada' and two successful comic cameos in ‘Qurbani’ and 'Love Story’.

He ventured into direction with the films ‘Chor Police’ and ‘Ameer Aadmi Gareeb Aadmi’, which turned out to be box office failures. In May 1992, Amjad Khan died following a severe heart attack.
