Biography of Amitabh Bachchan
(October 11, 1942)
Amitabh Bachchan was born in 1942 in Allahabad. He is the son of noted Hindi poet Harivanshrai Bachchan. Bachchan, before joining the film industry, had worked as a stage actor, radio announcer and a freight company executive. His first film was "Reshma aur Shera". Ironically, the celebrated baritone voice of Bachchan was not to be heard in his very first film, in which he played the character of a mute. His first film to release was 'Saat Hindustani', but it was with the film ‘Anand' that Amitabh Bachchan drew critical approbation as the doctor friend of Rajesh Khanna.
Finally, it was with the film ‘Zanjeer' that Amitabh's film persona became popular as the Angry Young Man'. But Amitabh's acting caliber was not limited to merely portraying emotions of hatred and anger, but other facets of acting like comedy and romanticism, which was expressed in films like 'Naseeb', "Namak Halal' and 'Kabhi Kabhi'. Thereafter, his films like 'Deewar', 'Coolie', 'Trishul' etc. made him a living legend of Bollywood.
