Biography of Atal Bihari Vajpayee
(December 25, 1924 - August 16, 2018)
Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Prime Minister of India, was born on December 25, 1924. He was educated at Victoria College, Gwalior and D.A.V. College, Kanpur. After completing his post-graduation he took up journalism and social service as his profession. He had a fascination for writing poems.
He entered the Parliament for the first time in 1957. He was one of the four founder members of the Jana Sangh in 1951. During 1977-79, he held the post of Foreign Minister in the Morarji Desai government. He was sent to the U.N. General Assembly as a representative of India where he addressed the Assembly in Hindi for the first time.
He became the Prime Minister of India in 1996, 1998 and 1999. During his leadership, India tested her nuclear capability at Pokhran in 1998. He has received the title of Padma Bhushan and the Best Member of Parliament. He has written a book of poems called "Kaidi Kaviraj Ki Kundalian?.
