Biography of Aurobindo Ghose
(1872 - 1950)
Aurobindo Ghose was a great writer, scholar, philosopher and patriot. He was born in 1872 in Kolkata. His father was Dr. K.D. Ghose. Aurobindo was admitted to Loreto Convent School in Darjeeling at the age of five. Later he was sent to St. Paul's School in London and then to King's College, Cambridge for his higher education.
He became a professor in English and afterwards the Vice-Principal of the Baroda College. Later he joined the struggle for independence against the British
He wrote many acclaimed books which include "The Life Divine', "The Synthesis of Yoga', 'Essays on the Gita', 'Commentaries on the Isha Upanishad' and Powers within - all dealing with the intense knowledge that he had gained in the practice of yoga. His other books are "The Foundations of Indian Culture, The Idea of Human Unity', 'The Future Poetry", The Secret of the Vedas' and 'The Human Cycle'. Aurobindo died in 1950.
