Biography of Jhumpa Lahiri

Jhumpa Lahiri is a Pulitzer-winning writer. She is of Indian origin. She was born in 1967 in London. She grew up in Rhode Island in London. She graduated in English literature from Barnard College. Later she received M.A. in English; an M.A. in Creative writing; an M.A. in Comparative writing; an M.A. in Comparative Literature and the Arts and Ph.D. in Renaissance Studies.
As a child, she wrote for her school newspaper. But she stopped writing fiction by the time she went to college. Then, she took up a job as a research assistant at a non-profit institution in Cambridge. Working there, she seriously took to writing. She got a book published. Three of her short stories appeared in 'The New Yorker in 1998. Her debut collection 'Interpreter of Maladies' came out in early 1999, which won the Pulitzer Prize. 'The New Yorker's summer fiction issue of 1999 about the future of American fiction includes Lahiri among the 20 best young fiction writers in America'. Jhumpa Lahiri currently lives in New York.
