Biography of Kishore Kumar

(August 4, 1929 - October 13, 1987)

Kishore Kumar was born in 1929. His actual name was Abbas Kumar Ganguly. At the age of 18 years, Kishore Kumar came to join Bollywood but he got very few opportunities in the Bombay film world. His first song was 'Marne Ki Duayen Kyon Mangen' in the film "Ziddi, released in 1948. He did small roles in many films and played the leading part in the film 'Andolan'.

In 1953, Kishore Kumar played the lead role in 'Ladki', opposite the superstar of that time, Vyajayanthimala. The films New Delhi' and Asha' (with the hit song 'Eena Meena Deeka') were lit up with Kishore's comic electricity. In 1958, he gave another hit "Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi', casting Madhubala in the lead role.

With the film "Aradhana', a creative resuscitation of Kishore Kumar came about with its enchanting songs and the complete identification of his voice with superstar Rajesh Khanna. In the mid-1980's he suffered setbacks in his health. Kishore Kumar died in 1987.
