Biography of Krishnaji Prabhakar Khadilkar
(November 23, 1872 - August 26, 1948)
When we talk about Marathi Drama, the first name that comes to our mind is of Krishanaji Prabhakar Khadilkar and his famous dramas Maau Bandaki', 'Swanvar' and Manapnam'. He was born on November 23, 1872 in Maharashtra. Before his birth, he had lost his father. As a result his mother treated him as her cursed child and did not care about him for many months.
From his childhood, he was very good in studies but had a passion for drama. When he was in class three he wrote his first drama. After completing graduation in 1895, he became a teacher and wrote another drama "Madhavarabancha Mrituu'. Later he joined 'Kesari' and started writing essays against the British government. In fact, it was Kaka Saheb's essay due to which Tilak was imprisoned for one and half years by the British government. He wrote the famous drama "Kichak Vadh' in which he opposed the partition of Bengal. He wrote nearly 15 dramas in his life. Therefore, people called him “Natyacharya'. He died on August 26, 1948.
