Biography of Sanjeev Kumar
(July 9, 1938 - November 6, 1985)
Sanjeev Kumar was born in a traditional Gujarati family in Mumbai in 1938. His actual name was Harihar Jariwala. From the very beginning, he was passionate about acting. After doing theatre he enrolled in the Filmalya acting school and soon got the opportunity of doing a small role in the film 'Hum Hindustani'. In 1965, the film 'Nishaan' was released with Sanjeev Kumar doing his first film as a hero. Though the film was inconsequential, Sanjeev Kumar's acting proficiency was noticed and appreciated.
In 1968, in the film 'Sanghursh', Sanjeev Kumar was pitted against Dilip Kumar. In the film 'Khilona', as a mentally unbalanced hero, he was brilliant. In the films, Aandhi' and 'Mausam’, his emotionally saturated voice elevated his performance, whereas it was his comic skill that shone apart in films like ‘Manchali', 'Pati Patni Aur Woh' and ‘Angoor'. Films 'Sholay' and ‘Trishul’ brought out an unexpected facet to his performances. Sanjeev Kumar died in 1985.
