Biography of Sharmila Tagore

Sharmila Tagore has been the embodiment of glamour in the Hindi film industry. She was in her teens when Satyajit Ray introduced her in his film Apur Sansar' and then in Devi'. She later went on to do films like 'Nayak', ‘Aranyer Din Ratri’ and ‘Semmabaddha’.

Her first Hindi film ‘Kashmir Ki Kali' in 1964, opposite Shammi Kapoor, launched her as the hottest and most glamorous actress of her time. Her glamorous role in An Evening in Paris' was also appreciated. Then came the film "Aradhana', opposite Rajesh Khanna, which was a super hit. Thereafter, she got married to the former Indian cricket captain, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi.

Her pairing with Rajesh Khanna sparked off many great hits like 'Safar' and Amar Prem'. In Gulzar's 'Mausam', opposite Sanjeev Kumar, she played a double role and won the National Award for Best Actress. Her other films include ‘Waqt, Anupama', 'Chupke Chupke’, ‘Desh Prem’ and 'Charitraheen'. She now plays character roles.
