Biography of Shashi Kapoor
(January 15, 1938 - December 4, 2017)
Shashi Kapoor was born in 1938. He began his career in films doing small roles in his father's theatre company. The 1961 film 'Dharamputra', directed by Yash Chopra, was his first major film. His subsequent films ‘Chaar Diwari' and 'Yeh Dil Kisko Doon' however flopped, and with it Kapoor's film career came to a standstill. But actress Nanda did a film with him ‘Jab Jab Phool Khile’ in 1965 that achieved success and brought Shashi Kapoor fame and accolades.
During the latter part of 1960's, Kapoor's English films – ‘Pretty Polly' and 'Bombay Talkie brought him to the limelight. In the world of Hindi movies, the film 'Sharmilee' with Rakhi and the film 'Chor Machaye Shor', released in 1974, brought him stardom.
Kapoor's film “Satyam Shivam Sundaram', made by brother Raj Kapoor, was highly successful. In 1978, his films with Amitabh Bachchan – ‘Deewar’, 'Kabhie Kabhie' and ‘Trishul’ proved to be his saving grace, as the films were blockbusters.
