Biography of Shekhar Kapoor

Shekhar Kapoor's actual name is Chandrashekhar Kapoor. Born in Lahore, he is the nephew of Dev Anand and Vijay Anand. He received his education in Delhi and is a chartered accountant by profession. He has also been a management consultant in London.
Entering the arena of Hindi films as an actor, he made his directorial debut with the film 'Masoom', which was much appreciated. Kapoor's directorial venture Mr. India' became a blockbuster in the 1980's. His much-talked-about film 'Bandit Queen' fictionalised the life of Phoolan Devi. The film ran into major censorship problems following accusations of defamation by Phoolan Devi and of exploitation by various groups.
His latest film was the Hollywood movie Elizabeth', which won him international acclaim. The film got an Oscar Award for the best costume. His other films include 'Ishq Ishq Ishq', 'Bindiya Chamkegi', ‘Joshilay', ‘Khandaan', 'Swagamsiddha’, Falak', Drishti', 'Satwaan Asmaan'.
