Biography of Sridevi

(August 13, 1963 -  February 24, 2018)

Sridevi was born in 1963. She began acting at the age of four in Telegu films. She made her debut in the Hindi film world with the movie ‘Solva Sawan', which was unsuccessful at the box office. However, with the 1983 film ‘Himmatwala', she made a successful foray into the world of stardom. The film ‘Sadma' followed, where her performance as a child-woman was much appreciated.

Sridevi's ascent to mega stardom was meteoric. Her films ‘Mr. India’, ‘Chandni' and 'Chaalbaaz' all served to establish her as the ruling queen of the Hindi film industry. She worked with Amitabh Bachchan in the film Akhari Rasta'. Films like 'Lamhe' portrayed Sridevi's versatility as an actress, winning over both audiences as well as critics.

During the 1990's, a series of Sridevi's films - Khuda Gawah, ‘Gumrah' and 'Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja' failed to do well at the box office, and led to her distancing from films. Sridevi is married to producer Boney Kapoor and has a daughter Jhanvi.
