Biography of Suryakant Tripathi Nirala

(Born: 21 February 1896, Midnapore - Died: 15 October 1961, Prayagraj)

Suryakant Tripathi Nirala was an outstanding poet and author of India. He was born on February 16, 1896 in the Midnapore district of West Bengal. In fact, his original home was as at Garhkola, Uttar Pradesh. He learnt languages like Hindi, Sanskrit, Bangla and English during his schooldays.

From 1915 to 1922, Nirala served in the Mahishadal Province of West Bengal. After that he indulged himself in independent writing. He also did some editing and translation works during this period. In 192223 he became the editor of Samanvay' which was published in Kolkata.

Nirala is one of the pillars of Chaybavad of Hindi literature. He wrote novels, stories as well as essays. But his popularity is mainly due to his excellent poetry. His famous and renowned writings are Apsara' (Novel), 'Chabuk (essay), Mahabharat (Puran Katha), 'Lily' (collection of stories), Parimal', 'Gitika' (collection of poems). He died on October 15, 1961, in Allahabad.
