Biography of Tabu

Tabu is a very talented actress. She has won two National Awards for her acting. Her real name is Tabassum. Her father was Janal Hashmi and mother Rizwara. Her sister Farha is also a well-known actress. As a teenager, Tabu was shy and reserved. Her first brush with acting was with Dev Anand's 'Hum Naujawan' as a child artist. Tabu had never really thought of films as a profession. But fate destined otherwise.

The first film she signed as lead actress was Prem', but finally, Pehla Pehla Pyar' released first and launched her as a leading lady. The film 'Prem’ did not do well commercially, but Tabu was noticed. Her film ‘Vijaypath' was a hit. She was an actress, who was willing to take on challenges and experiment. Then she got Gulzar's film 'Maachis'. In this film she came up with a performance that won her the National Award. Tabu is a versatile actress. She has played different roles in various films. She again won the National Award for her acting in the film 'Chandni Bar'. Her performance in the film ‘Astitva' was also appreciated.
