Biography of Usha Uthup

A legend bridging the East and the West, Usha Uthup with her music and charm has transcended the barriers of caste, creed, language, and nationality. Usha Uthup was born in independent India and was brought up in the bustling metropolis. Usha did not receive any formal training in music but persistence and conviction drove her to pursue a professional singing career in 1969.
She is the only artist to have recorded six albums in English with HMV/EMI. Today Uthup sings in more than thirteen Indian and eight foreign languages and has sung for Prime Ministers and Presidents of numerous countries, all over the world, including Indira Gandhi and Nelson Mandela. With her rich voice and vivacious energy, she enchants fans of all ages, from all over the world.
Her extraordinary voice has won her the endearing title, 'Didi'. That her song 'Ramba Ho' still plays at discos and packs the dance floor is a testimony of her incredible power.
