A Visit to A Museum

"Museums are a place where things of the past are kept. It is a place of the public show which throws a flood of light on our past."

Museums are the means of acquainting oneself with the culture and civilization of a country. They entertain us and teach in a particular way by opening a wonderful spectrum before us. Countries collect beautiful articles of the past, samples of art and culture, the armaments, garments, dolls, and articles of swelters and expert designers. These museums immortalize the articles which had breathed their last in the dead past but become an object of admiration and wonder to the viewers.

India has got various museums; one of them is the Salarjung Museum of Hyderabad. The museum is situated in a beautiful garden and in one of the palaces of Nizam. As soon as I entered this palace through a huge gate, I found small rare items. Then I entered a big hall which contained beautiful statues made of white marble, wood, and other material. I saw a beautiful statue of a woman cut into marble which shocked me and I thought how a woman could be made to stand like that on a huge table. But a close look at the statue made me realize how wonderful and skillful those hands were, which had made that statue. This woman statue was carved in white marble and it was veiled, which was a mosaic work by the expert sculptor.

The shelves also in this room displayed very rare articles i.e., a grain of rice on which seven thousand words were engraved. There were pictures and photographs which gave a lot of information about the knowledge and the technology of the photographers and painters. There were other rooms that contain pottery, utensils, and garments used by the royalty.

There were summer vacations so this museum drew large crowds especially children. I saw them standing in a courtyard. To my wonder, I saw a clock which had a small door and it opened exactly at 12 noon and the watchman struck the bell twelve times and the door closed. It was a strange spectacle. I was compelled to think about their skill, the knowledge which those artisans possessed. I came to realize how advanced Indian science was and how advanced was our culture and civilization.

The only thing that I can state that these museums are a source of inspiration and a means of education for the young and the old. They are an example of culture and civilization.
