A Wrestling Match

"A sound mind lives in a sound body."

Or

"Health is true wealth as it can neither be stolen nor can be given to anyone."

Indians are well known for their love for wrestling and so whenever there is a wrestling match between reputed wrestlers one is supposed to see a huge gathering there. Gone are the days when wrestling matches were held before the kings and the emperors. Nowadays the matches are held on tickets and wrestlers can earn a lot in such matches. Therefore, most of the wrestlers have become professionals. Dara Singh was a world champion in wrestling. He was challenged by an African wrestler Jungo.

The match I saw was to be held at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium in Jalandhar. The stadium had a capacity of twenty thousand people to sit. Preparations were made earlier. Finally, the day of the contest came. There was a huge rush in the stadium through the entry was by tickets. I had already bought a ticket and so I went in quite before the wrestling started. As it was a challenge match so people and come from far and near. The wrestling arena was in the middle of the stadium.

Before the main contest, there were a few wrestling bouts. Some junior wrestlers showed their great strength and skill in these bouts. Finally, Joginder and Randhawa entered the arena. They were tall, well built and stout. They looked like giants when they shook their hands. Randhawa was taller and more muscular in physical construction than Joginder. He was also younger in age. The All India Radio

Door-Darshan had also made arrangements to relay the match alive. One could watch it on television and listen to the running commentary on the radio.

The referee blew the whistle and they came to grip. It was a freestyle match. Each gave blows with his hands on the chest of others but none seemed to be affected. The sound of blows could be heard from the distance.

It was a tough fight. For ten minutes none seemed to be stranger than the other. Then it appeared that Randhawa threw Joginder on the ground. But no it was a trick played by Joginder his famous trick known as 'Deathlock'. Poor Randhawa was entangled in it. For five minutes he was made to get up and again pull down. Ultimately he lost his match. Joginder was declared the winner.

To sum up, such matches inspire us to develop not only our mental powers but physical powers also. A sound mind lives only in a sound body. We should have some exercise daily to keep fit. A physically fit person is mentally alert also. To promote the value of games and sports the government should make efforts from the village level itself. Now it is at the individual level, then it is at the government level. So it could be easily founded. Good wrestlers can bring name and fame to the country.
