If I were the Principal of a College

"There is nothing more properly the language of the heart than a wish."

If I were the principal of a college, I would change the whole pattern of education. I would dissuade students from opting for the traditional subjects. They are of no use in the modern age. A student with a degree in Arts subject cannot earn his living. He cannot get even a clerk's job because even this job requires the know-how about computers and machines.

I would introduce vocational courses in a college. The students would be persuaded to take up vocational subjects like fashion designing, refrigeration, electronics, auto repairing, and motor mechanism, etc. Competent, dutiful and devoted staff would be appointed. They would take a personal interest in students. They would be well paid. Well equipped workshops and machine rooms would be constructed. Students would be taught the dignity of labor. They would be trained to be self-sufficient and to earn their living. In the evening, the students would play games of their choice in the playground. Teachers of the sports department would be asked to look after their physical and mental health.

I would look to the overall development of the student’s personality. Only bookish knowledge is not enough. Therefore they would be taught to be practical in life. They would be taught to be dutiful, honest, sincere, and hardworking in life. They would be made useful citizens of the country.

Such students after getting an education would not hanker after pretty jobs. They would set up their business with the help of Bank Loans. They would be independent and not a parasite on their parents.

The extra Mural Department would be activated. Students would take part in debates, discussions, plays, songs, and skits. They would be made to think freely and independently. They would both study and enjoy their stay at the college. A sense of discipline would be inculcated among them.

A very good library would be provided to them. Students would consult the latest books on the subjects. Magazines, periodicals, and newspapers would be provided in the library, studying in the library for an hour would be made compulsory

Proper medical arrangements would be made in the school dispensary. A medical specialist in each field would visit the dispensary twice a week besides a permanent resident doctor.

Televisions would be installed to acquaint the students with the latest happenings in the world. Television is very educative, informative, and entertaining to the students. They would acquire a modern outlook after viewing the television

All this would be done steadily. I would need a huge fund for implementing these schemes. I would approach the government and charitable institutions to provide funds to the college. Once funds are arranged, there would be no difficulty in making a model college. I would seek the cooperation of all concerned and connected with the institution. I would love my students and respect my members of staff. All of us would work hard in the service of the student’s community.
