Wonders of Science

"An act of wisdom can turn a curse into a blessing." Science came into existence when man struggled to overpower the forces of nature. In fact, when man lived on trees and was afraid of wild animals, he then invented stone weapons, later on, the wooden ones, and finally metallic weapons. Similarly, he discovered the fire when he could no longer eat raw meat. When he could not fear cold and heat, he invented leather dresses and then cotton and silken clothes. When eating meat made him fore he invented agriculture and irrigation. Thus his daily needs made him discover various items which make him happy and comfortable.

The modern age is the age of science. Science is making impossible things possible. The dreams of yesterday have become the reality of today. We can fly in the air like a bird. We can swim in the water like a fish. It has blessed us with various comforts of life. Science has increased human happiness. Science has lengthened life, minimized danger, and made life happier than the life our forefathers had. If they revisit the world from their heavenly abode they would be so much pleased and surprised that they would like to come back and stay here.

Science has increased happiness. Railway trains, motor cars, airplanes take us to any part of the world we wish to go to. We can talk to our far-off friends with the help of the telephone, send telegraphic messages, and hear every day’s happenings on the radio and television. Cinema, video, and V.C.R. have added to our amusement and entertainment. We see many films on T.V. sets in a month. Thus the world has been brought to our drawing rooms. Again there is a revolution in communication and transport means. One can send and receive messages across the seas. We can move faster than sound by supersonic airplanes.

Electricity is another wonder of science. It is a source of power. But it is very common. Electricity is produced from water, wind, sun, coal, and atom. Agriculture has progressed a great lot. Medical science has achieved many wonders. Life-saving drugs and the transplantation of human body parts have become a reality. Different teaching aids have revolutionized the life of man. Weather forecast is predicted by using science. Again disaster warning is by means of satellite communication.

No doubt science has provided great comforts but it is not an unmixed blessing. The invention of atom bombs, hydrogen bombs, magnetic tanks, missiles, and long distant guns are very harmful to mankind. In fact, the world stands on the brink of destruction because of such inventions of science. They are the warning to the human species on the earth. The invention of many destructive weapons has increased the horrors of war. Thus science works like a slave in a better way. We should not make it our master. Its use should be for the betterment of mankind.
