Dear Sir,
I wish to express my views on the need for relief for the earthquake victims
The recent spate of earthquakes in almost every part of the world is an indicator of the health of the ecological systems of the earth.
These earthquakes are in Maharashtra, Uttar Kashi, or elsewhere render thousands of people homeless, while many others lose their lives. I
Science has made rapid advancements, however, it has yet to develop an advanced earthquake warning system.
We can confidently leave these long-term remedies to the scientists. Our immediate effort should be to provide relief and rehabilitation to the needy.
This can be done by rushing medical supplies and rescue teams from other parts of the country to the earthquake site. We should collect blankets, medicines, tents, utensils, and food from among the people of our societies and colonies. We should also persuade local doctors to lend a helping hand to the unfortunate victims.
Rehabilitation of the victims usually takes time. This can be speeded up by providing money for their assistance in clearing the debris at the earthquake sights. Those who are not in a physical state to provide physical labor should be given work according to their abilities at the rescue sight itself. The money thus earned can be utilized in setting up small avenues of employment like a tea stall, buying a hand cart or putting up a cloth ironing kiosk, etc.
We should all pool in our skills and resources to bring back the dignity in the lives of these sufferers.
Yours sincerely,
R. N Goel.
