My dear Father,
I was glad to receive your letter. It was indeed heartening to know that Mother has recovered from her bout of cold.
I learned from your letter that you have decided that the time has now come, for me to marry and settle down. I however think otherwise, Dear father, gone are the days when early marriages were the norm. I am not yet mentally prepared to take on the responsibility of a family and children. I am still trying to make my life and career successful. I can say with absolute certainty that marriage at this age will be an obstacle in my carrier growth. On the contrary, if I wait for at least three years. I will have made sufficient progress and relative stability in my job.
As you are aware that my company has placed a considerable responsibility on my shoulders. They have also invested heavily in my training. At this stage therefore any division in my attention from my work will not be looked kindly upon by them. I have also come to know from the Personnel Manager of the company that they plan to send me abroad for three years training in their sister concern in Carolina, USA.
Dear father, I, therefore, think that it will be unwise to think of marriage. I also feel that by doing so I will not be able to do justice with either my job or the institution of marriage itself.
At 21 years of age, I feel that I am very young to settle down. Keeping all these facts in mind I feel that you on your part will also be able to understand my point of view and drop the idea of early marriage for me.
At the end of my letter, I only beg for your understanding and forgiveness.
Yours obediently,
Aruna Gupta.
