Biography of Nagarjun
(Born 1971 – Died 1998)
Nagarjun was a popular poet and writer. He was born in 1911 at Darbhanga district of Bihar. During the freedom struggle, he joined the revolutionary peasant movement. Later, he came under the influence of travel writer Rahul Sankrityayan.
Nagarjun was disillusioned by the great leaders of the freedom struggle. He felt the struggle had a middle-class character and it would not benefit the poor people. He was jailed several times during the movement.
Nagarjun was a popular and well-known poet but was recognised by the conservative establishment after a long time. He supported the "Total Revolution led by Jayprakash Narayan. He was jailed during the Emergency of 1975.
Nagarjun wrote many books. His books include "Baba Batesarnath, "Balchahna', 'Ratinath Ki Chachi', 'Patrahin Nagna Gachh' and 'Khichni Viplav Dekha'. He also translated Jayadeva's "Gita Govinda' and the works of Kalidasa. He died in 1998.
