Biography of Pankaj Mishra

An eminent author, Pankaj Mishra was born in 1969. He did his Bachelor's in English Literature from Allahabad University and M. Phil. from Jawaharlal Nehru University. He has been a regular contributor to the New York Review of Books. He has written a number of articles on India's nuclear tests and the state of Indian politics.

His first novel was 'The Romantics'. It has been published in dozens of countries and translated into many languages. It focuses on India through the eyes of western philosophy. His earlier book "Butter Chicken of Ludhiana', is a travel book. It was published in 1995. It is considered as one of the best travel books ever written about India. - When he was the Chief Editor of Harper Collins India, he received the manuscript of "The God of Small Things" by Arundhati Roy. His writings have provided a new path to the contemporary Indian travel writers. His descriptions of Tiruppur, the centre of India's hosiery business and the harassment of white women tourists in Benaras, are magnificent.
