Biography of R.K. Laxman

(Born: 24 October 1921 - Died: 26 January 2015)

R.K. Laxman is a famous cartoonist and writer. He was born in Mysore. He graduated from the Mysore University. Right from his childhood, he was interested in drawing cartoons. He began his career in “The Blitz as a cartoonist. Later he worked for the Free Press Journal'. He joined 'The Times of India’ as a political cartoonist. He became famous for his cartoon character 'The Common Man'.

R.K. Laxman has written many books. His first novel was 'The Hotel Riviera'. Later he wrote 'The Messenger'. His autobiography, 'The Tunnel of Time', was very popular and much acclaimed. Recently, he wrote "Servant of India', which was a best-seller. He has also got a collection of his cartoons published.

Laxman was awarded with the Magsaysay Award in 1984. He was also honoured with the Padma Bhushan. His interests include reading books and listening to classical music. He has visited many countries like the US, China, Australia, England, etc.
