Biography of T.L. Vaswani

(November 25, 1879 - January 16, 1926)

The Sindhi's soil has begotten many saints and great personalities and one among them was T.L. Vaswani. He was born on November 25, 1879, in Hyderabad (Sindh). His full name was Thanvar Lilaram Vasvani. Right from his childhood, he was inclined towards religion. He was a very talented student in his school and stood first in the matriculation examination. He was very good at English and did his graduation and post-graduation in English. In 1908, he became a professor of English in T.G. College. At the age of 30, he was invited to Berlin to attend a religious seminar. He gave such a captivating lecture that people were spellbound.

In 1920, he joined Gandhi's Satyagraha movement. His essays were published in Gandhi's 'Young India'. He laid the foundation of "Merra Movement" to help uneducated women. He also opened a women's college in Poona. He was a great scholar and wrote many famous works like Awake Young India', 'India's Adventure', India in Chains'. He died on January 16, 1926, in Poona.
